The Old Settlers Association first met in 1863, to preserve the stories of the creation of the Dakota Territory. The group started annual Old Settler's Picnics in the 1940s to bring people together to share stories resulting in an annual Old Settlers Association Yearbook. Crystal Nelson will be presenting a synopsis of the 10+ years of yearbooks and share stories of the good, the bad, and the unpredictable settlement years of Dakota Territory. On January 8th at noon Paul Goettsch will be at the Mead Cultural Education Center to talk about his vintage toy collection. He will be sharing how he started collecting toys, why he collects and a few stories about specific pieces in the collection. The event is free and open to the public. It will also be streamed on the Mead Facebook page.
