EVENT START FOR THE 1.5 MILE WALK EVENT \n\nJoin us on Saturday August 3rd at 9am at Riverside Park in Yankton for the third annual Step Forward to Prevent Suicide 1.5 mile walk to raise awareness and provide hope and healing. Jenny Noteboom\, the 2019 Honorary spokesperson will share her personal story prior to the walk. Following the walk there will be a Remembrance Ceremony which will feature live music performed by Kings of Oblivion\, reading of the names of loved ones lost to suicide and a 100% biodegradable balloon release. We highly encourage all participants to stay for this memorable event.\n\nFor over 30 years\, the Helpline Center has been South Dakota's leader for suicide prevention and aftercare services. By Stepping Forward\, your participation will help support the Helpline Center's 24/7 crisis line\, suicide prevention trainings and grief support services for survivors. This event also provides the teen crisis texting program to the students of Yankton High School and Yankton Middle School. \n\nOur community and our state continue to experience the loss of our family and friends to suicide. Sadly\, suicide is currently the second leading cause of death among young adults ages 15 - 24 nationally and also the second leading cause of death for that age group in South Dakota. We can all Step Forward to make a difference. There is help and hope by raising awareness about suicide and funding prevention programs. 100% of all Step Forward to Prevent Suicide proceeds stays local to provide the services from the Helpline Center and help Bridging Yankton and United Way continue to provide teen texting to the students of Yankton High School and Yankton Middle School. \n\nThis event is FREE to all participants.
