SUMMARY:Spring Theology Institute
DESCRIPTION:SPRING THEOLOGY INSTITUTE March 23 at Sacred Heart Monastery\n\nIn a departure from its usual format\, the Spring Theology Institute at Sacred Heart Monastery on Saturday\, March 23 will feature a documentary film\, created as a rare co-production between the Vatican and Oscar-nominated film director\, Wim Wenders. Wenders expressed surprise when approached by the pope's spokesman\, asking if he would be interested in personally interviewing Pope Francis. The well-known director remarks that he eagerly accepted the invitation\, because "this pope has captured the imagination of the world\, not just of Catholics or Christians."\n\nIt's not surprising\, notes Sr. Marielle Frigge\, that so many would pay attention to Pope Francis' message. "First of all\," she says\, "he speaks clearly with his actions as well as words\, addressing and embracing prisoners\, the homeless\, people of all religions and none as well as wealthy\, famous\, and influential personages around the globe." \n\nAfter a brief introduction to director Wenders and his approach in the film\, the ninety-minute documentary will be followed by audience interaction and discussion of Pope Francis' responses to today's global questions concerning social justice\, ecology\, wealth inequality\, materialism\, immigration\, and the role of the family in today's world. The film weaves together direct interviews with Pope Francis\, his teaching on these issues\, and background on his chosen namesake\, Francis of Assisi. \n\nThe Theology Institute will take place in the monastery chapter room from 9:00 a.m. to noon\, March 23. There is no charge for this event\, but registration is requested for planning purposes (call 605-668-6000\, or email S. Marielle Frigge at mfrigge@mtmc.edu ).
