This annual event is a collection for residential waste that should not be put into the normal solid waste system (the garbage.)
This is part of Vermillion/Yankton Joint Solid Waste System and co-sponsored by Clay County and Yankton County.
The event is held at the Yankton Transfer Station (1200 West 23rd Street) and costs $10/vehicle. This fee helps offset the large cost to bring in the hazardous waste company to dispose of these items.
Please try to bring exact change, as car lines will move faster that way. Make checks out to "City of Vermillion."
This event is open to any Yankton County residents. Please do not bring business, school, or commercial waste.

Why dispose of HHW properly?
Certain types of HHW have the potential to cause physical injury to sanitation workers, contaminates septic tanks or wastewater treatment systems if poured down drains or toilets, and present hazards to children and pets if left around the house. Read products labels for disposal directions to reduce the risk of products exploding, igniting, leaking, mixing with other chemicals, or posing other hazards on the way to a disposal facility. Even empty containers of HHW can post hazards because of the residual chemicals that might remain.
