Housing & Transportation

With a population of 14,651, Yankton is a compact town, with a variety of transportation options. The Auld-Brokaw Trail and slow streets mean that biking is viable to get to most destinations. Make sure to change your address with the United States Postal Service! This free service will provide you with free forwarding for a year – giving you a chance to let everyone know your new address. Make sure to register to vote when you move to South Dakota so that you impact local, state, and national decision-making.
You can register to vote at the same time you get a South Dakota Driver's license. Or visit the South Dakota Secretary of State's website for other ways that you can register to vote.
If you're bringing a vehicle with you to South Dakota, you'll need to register your vehicle and get a new title and South Dakota license plates.
Plan a trip to the Yankton county treasurer's office (in the Yankton County Government Building at 321 W. 3rd St. Suite 107) or call their office for more information at: (605) 260-4400. Bring your current out-of-state title, a fill-outed vehicle registration form available on South Dakota Department of Revenue's website, proof of insurance, and be prepared to have an odometer reading if your vehicle is newer than 9 years old.

Yankton School District offers a quality education at their four elementary schools, middle school, and high school. Our Yankton public schools offer extracurricular activities for all tastes and talents from athletics to music to computers – your child will thrive in our caring school district.
