Elementary and Secondary Education Overview
Yankton prides itself for the excellent quality of schooling at all ages. Our teachers and staff in each school work hard to make the student's time exciting and educational. The Yankton School District operates a Middle School for grades 6-7-8 for all public and private school students in the Yankton area. Computers, home economics, industrial arts, German and art are offered to all students as exploratory classes. Two computer labs are available to facilitate student learning. The Middle School student to staff ratio is 19:1.

The Yankton Public Schools currently operate four elementary schools: Beadle, Lincoln, Stewart and Webster.

There are also three private religious based elementary schools in Yankton, the Glory Christian School, Missouri Valley Christian Academy and Sacred Heart Elementary School, as well as a private religious based middle school, Sacred Heart Middle School.

High School Scores High:
A new $21 million dollar facility opened in September 1996. Yankton High School has been continuously accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools since 1904. Yankton High offers a student to staff ratio of 16:1. The school's students have received a composite score of 23.1 on their ACT scores, above the national and state composite scores of 21.1 and 22.0, respectively.

In addition to its regular high school curriculum, Yankton High School offers a series of adult education programs, post secondary courses through Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, and a GED preparation and testing program. An Alternative Learning center for high risk and non-traditional students is also operated at the high school level.
 

Higher Education Overview
Mount Marty College, an academic community in the Catholic Benedictine liberal arts tradition, located in Yankton offers 26 undergraduate and 3 graduate degrees. Mount Marty College focuses on preparing students for a career!

The University of South Dakota (USD) is located 25 miles east of Yankton, via 4-lane access, in Vermillion with a total student (full-time and part-time) population of over 9,200. USD offers over 100 academic programs. More than 75 percent of the students enrolled at USD hold a job, creating a labor pool of nearly 4,600. USD was the first university in the United States to provide handheld computers for students.
