Local Assistance for All Small Businesses
In 2006, the Board of Directors commissioned the Leadership Yankton Committee to design and implement a program that would help new entrepreneurs better prepare for ownership.  The Business Entrepreneurial Training class is offered twice a year, in the spring and fall.  The program curriculum includes topics such as management and legal structure, human resources, accounting and recording keeping, managing your money, financial statements, financing your business and marketing versus advertising.  


Enterprise Institute - Yankton
The Enterprise Institute's Business Resource Center is a first stop for any business in the region seeking to go to the next growth level, including assistance to start-up companies. Experts with backgrounds in a variety of industries are available to assist entrepreneurs. The Institute seeks out new business ideas and helps them grow with the following services: financing contracts, business planning, competitive assessment, human resources, mentors and the Independent Inventor Institute. The Institute has strong expertise in helping inventors negotiate patents and trademarks.

New Horizons - A resource guide to starting or expanding your business in the Yankton area.
Starting or expanding a business can seem like an overwhelming task. Historic Downtown Yankton, Inc. and the Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to create a resource guide to assist potential business owners in navigating their way to successfully opening or expanding their business. The guide provides general information as well as information specific to the Yankton area about business assistance entities available to the public. In addition to this on-line guide, a hard copy can be obtained by contacting the Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce at (605) 665-3636.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides professional, confidential and no-cost business consulting services, including one-on-one counseling and training to individuals starting a business or looking for ways to improve an existing business. SBDC services enable South Dakota's entrepreneurs to improve and develop more informed business decisions, to avoid costly mistakes, to prepare thorough and complete business plans needed both to obtain financing and to effectively manage their venues.
